Samples can be anything from the weird, really cool, fantastically funny to the mundane. Douglas' uses sounds that are not conventionally defined as 'music'. Things like a siren, bus chimes, train conductor announcements, pin ball machines, or natural sounds like birds or static.
Really, it can be anything so long as it's not copyrighted. Thanks for thinking of us but, Douglas has enough samples that may be otherwise copyrighted. It can be in the public domain though, which would mean that the copyright has expired. That would be works that are older than 50 years from the end of the calendar year of death of the copyright author, or the last of the copyright authors death if there were more than one.
So: if it's your local DJ's show intro, we'll take a pass. If it's the weird tune coming from the chip truck as it drove by and you recorded it, perfect, we'd love to hear it.
